Spectre break even point

Today, an analysis has surfaced, stating what is the amount of money Spectre needs to do to arrive to the break even point, and that is a very big amount of money, more than you could imagine.

According to various analyst, in fact, the new James Bond installment needs to arrive to 650 millions $ of revenue to cover the costs. In fact, according to sources, the bakers, that invested an estimated 250 millions $, has to split the revenue witht the exhibitors.

The movie is on the good way, though, opening in the UK with nearly 80 millions $ in the first week end, with the screenings set to start in a lot of markets, including US, during the end of this week, between today and tomorrow.

The movie is set to open between 60 and 80 millions in the US in the first week end, just falling short of the 88 millions $ Skyfall did in its first week end in 2012.

Will Spectre cover its cost? And will it top Skyfall and its 1 billion revenues?

Bond for Business

What does it mean to be a Bond film’s marketing partner?

It certainly means a lot of money. While it is reported that EON, the production company run by Barbara Broccoli and M doesn’t seem to be interested particularly in the money a company can give them, they (and Sony) seem to be extremely implicated in what a company can do in terms of marketing for a new 007 installment.

They seems to be also exceptionally reserved on this matters, and probably their refractoriness in talking about these matters comes both from marketing accords and from the leaked information they had early this year through the Sony hacker attack.

In fact, while it appears for a very short time during the movie, it was reported that there were some problems between Sony, movie distributor with its company Columbia, and EON and Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig to place their new phone in the movie, in the end it seems they made up your mind and the cellphone is briefly visible during a scene of the new movie Spectre.
At the same time, this partnership helped EON with the marketing, with ads featuring Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) carrying a suitcase containing the new Sony Xperia Z5.
The same can be said of Heineken. The green-bottled-beer, featured also in Skyfall, returns in Spectre, while Gillette appears for the first time. Heineken is believed to have paid more than 28 million pounds to appear in Skyfall, a part from the marketing effort they made, and the return must have been huge if they decided to pursue the same pattern with Spectre.

Same we can say for Omega, from 20 years now a 007 partner. Since Goldeneye, in fact, the most beloved Her Majesty’s Secret Service agent wears one or two Omegas in the movie, Seamaster usually. Also in the last installment, James Bond wears the new Omega Seamaster 300, and in particular a special version made specially for him.

Yes, this is another route almost all the companies involved in product placement pursue: create a special edition of their product related to 007. Omega has done 2 watches, a special version of the Seamaster 300 and a limited Aqua Terra Bond edition. Sony released its Z5 relating it to 007, showing it with the time 07:00 on the display, Belvedere and Heineken released special bottles, Gillette a limited edition package. Even Aston Martin has released a special DB9 GT Bond edition.

Here there are some ads videos for Spectre:

Sony Xperia Z5 made for Bond:

Heineken, The chase:

Aston Martin DB9 GT Bond Edition:

Gillette and Spectre present: Bond Moments

Omega and Spectre:

So, Bond is a big business not only for EON, but also for the products in the movie.

SPECTRE sets record in its opening day

In the firt day full day of screenings, on tuesday, Spectre sets a record in the UK, gaining almost 9.2 million $. It must be added to the 6.5 million $ the film earned on the first night on Monday, totaling almost 16 million $ so far, and only in the UK.

The James Bond franchise gained almost 2 billion $ during the 53 years of the franchise, thanks to the 23 movies before SPECTRE. Half of these earnings came from the last movie, Skyfall, 1.1 billion dollars at the box office.

The challenge for SPECTRE is to be able to top the previous outing. Will it succeed? Certainly the start is promising.

Naomie Harris and Andrew Scott talk Spectre

SPECTRE star Naomie Harris talked with Big Issue about the upcoming movie this week.

Here’s what she said:

“I watched the Bond movies [growing up] and they were glamorous, sexy, romantic and exciting,” she says. “But I never watched a Bond movie and cried until I saw Casino Royale. That’s when I thought you could have all of those elements, plus you can touch people’s hearts and move them emotionally. That is something new. That is what Daniel brought. No other Bond brought that.”

Craig is the sixth film Bond – or seventh if you include David Niven in 1967’s Casino Royale, which wasn’t made by Eon Productions – so how long can they keep it going?

“We will keep making these movies as long as people want to come and see them,” says Broccoli. “So far we have gotten away with it. Let’s see how long it can last.”

You can find the whole interview, plus Barbara Broccoli’s words on SPECTRE, in this week’s Big Issue

Andrew Scott, Denbigh in the new 007 outcome, talked with TV3.ie about his casting and Sam Smith’s Writing’s on the Wall.

Here’s what he said about SPECTRE title song:

“It took a few listens, but now I’m really into it,” he insisted to Britain’s Heat magazine. “It’s a more subtle Bond theme and all the more interesting for it.”

and about his casting:

“A couple of days later [after he talked with Sam Mendes] I got a call offering me the role,” Andrew said. “I did dance around a bit, I can’t lie. No. I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone for a while – just like all the things I do. I had to wait for the announcement event at Pinewood with the cast. I knew right from the start that it was a big number I had to keep secret.”

And last, about the first day of shooting:

“It was quite scary. I’ve been doing this stuff for a few years, but this was different. We shot on the set of the MI5 offices and I felt like I was stepping into Bond history. It was fairly intimidating to look around and think, ‘Wow, I’m in this rather than just watching.’”

Italian actress Monica Bellucci talked with Telegraph about her role in the upcoming movie “SPECTRE”.

In particular she talked about working with Daniel Craig: “Daniel is so generous as an actor and a man, so I was never uncomfortable” she said talking about their intimate scenes in the movie, “When you have to do intimate scenes with someone, it’s so important for the chemistry to be there – because then it becomes more like a tango.”

She added. ”But I don’t think it’s a coincidence that a lot of roles I’m playing now are women coming out of the darkness into the light because feel that ageing has given me a new freedom.”
She also talked about the first time she was called from Sam Mendes, and what she thought about her role: ‘I thought they wanted me to play the new M. I really did but when Sam explained that he wanted ‘an adult woman to seduce Bond for the first time, I realised that this was going to be revolutionary. It is such a beautiful example to set for other actresses and other women.”

She continued talking about how she lives her age, and in particular her five-year-old daughter seeing her in a new simsuit and saying her “Mama, you’re explosifying!”. “They’ve told me so many things in my life” she said “but thtat was the biggest compliment I have ever received, and that’s not even a word!”
